Mechanisms of Energy Transduction by Charge Translocating Membrane Proteins

چکیده
Life relies on the constant exchange of different forms energy, i.e., energy transduction. Therefore, organisms have evolved in a way to be able harvest made available by external sources (such as light or chemical compounds) and convert these into biological useable forms, such transmembrane difference electrochemical potential (???). Membrane proteins contribute establishment ??? coupling exergonic catalytic reactions translocation charges (electrons/ions) across membrane. Irrespectively source consequent type reaction, all charge-translocating follow two molecular mechanisms: direct- indirect-coupling, depending whether translocated charge is involved driving reaction. In this review, we explore mechanisms thoroughly examining types membrane proteins. For each protein, analyze respective reaction thermodynamics, electron transfer/catalytic processes, pathways, ion/substrate stoichiometries.

Molecular Mechanisms of Membrane Deformation by I-BAR Domain Proteins
BACKGROUND Generation of membrane curvature is critical for the formation of plasma membrane protrusions and invaginations and for shaping intracellular organelles. Among the central regulators of membrane dynamics are the BAR superfamily domains, which deform membranes into tubular structures. In contrast to the relatively well characterized BAR and F-BAR domains that promote the formation of ...
متن کاملFouling Mechanism Study of Nanoporous Membrane by Ultrafitration of Whey Proteins
One of the barriers during whey filtration using UF membrane is the fouling phenomenon of the membrane, which is caused by whey proteins. In this work, the UF membranes were prepared using polysufone (PSf), dimethyl formamide (DMF), 1 wt.% poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and different concentrations of LiCl via phase inversion induced by immersion precipitation. The prepared membranes were charact...
متن کاملCharge asymmetry in the proteins of the outer membrane
MOTIVATION Outer membrane beta-barrels (OMBBs) are the proteins found in the outer membrane of bacteria, mitochondria and chloroplasts. There are thousands of beta-barrels reported in genomic databases with ∼2-3% of the genes in gram-negative bacteria encoding these proteins. These proteins have a wide variety of biological functions including active and passive transport, cell adhesion, cataly...
متن کاملPRDM Proteins: Molecular Mechanisms in Signal Transduction and Transcriptional Regulation
PRDM (PRDI-BF1 and RIZ homology domain containing) protein family members are characterized by the presence of a PR domain and a variable number of Zn-finger repeats. Experimental evidence has shown that the PRDM proteins play an important role in gene expression regulation, modifying the chromatin structure either directly, through the intrinsic methyltransferase activity, or indirectly throug...
متن کاملThe Extractability of Inner-Membrane Proteins from Salmonella typhimurium Intact Cells, Spheroplasts and Inner-Membrane Fragments by Non-Denaturing Detergents
The effect of Triton X-100, Na cholate and Tween 80 on the solubilization of integral membrane proteins in intact cells, spheroplasts and inner-membrane fragments of Salmonella typhimurium was studied. The detergents were used in various concentrations (1.6 to 64 mM) and cytochromes b and d were used as marker to monitor the solubilization of membrane-bound proteins. Results showed that no inne...
